General preparation information, not legal advice or a decision about your registration requirements. Elmbridge is independent of CQC.
1. Describe the service
Write down the activities, intended clients, location, contracts and who will direct the work. Record exclusions as well as services offered.
2. Check the regulatory scope
CQC says providers carrying on regulated activities in England need registration. Use its registration and scope guidance; a business name alone does not settle the question. Seek qualified advice where the boundary is unclear.
3. Record what is ready
Keep a simple list of decisions, evidence, unresolved questions and responsible owners. Use it to separate completed work from intentions.
4. Build a realistic preparation plan
CQC expects applications to be ready, including relevant staff, premises and supporting documents. Its guidance explains the checks and evidence needed. Do not treat a policy pack as proof that the organisation can deliver the service.
5. Review before committing
Check costs, dependencies and unresolved questions before committing to premises, hiring or an application. Keep financial estimates labelled as assumptions until verified.
